Planned
giving is an important part in insuring the future of United Cerebral
Palsy of Oklahoma's work with children and adults with disabilities.
Through planned giving, it is possible for donors to meet their
individual needs while at the same time helping a charitable organization
they trust and believe in. There also is great flexibility in
designing plans from bequests that reduce estate taxes to trusts
that preserve income for college tuition or retirement. Many donors
have found that deferred gifts to United Cerebral Palsy of Oklahoma
can provide valuable current tax benefits while at the same time
maximizing estate assets passed on to their heirs.
Here are some ways that donors can remember United Cerebral Palsy
of Oklahoma:
A bequest enables
you to name UCPOK as a beneficiary in your will. A bequest may
consist of cash, securities, real property, or all or a percentage
of a residuary estate. It may also consist of a trust set up through
your will. While the following wording for bequests is offered
for your consideration, UCPOK urges you to consult a legal or
financial advisor in preparing a planned gift.
"I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to United Cerebral Palsy
of Oklahoma, Inc., a nonprofit corporation which has its principal
offices at 10400 Greenbriar Pl., Ste 101, Oklahoma City OK 73159
. . . the sum of $ (amount)." (for a gift of a fixed amount),
.....
or an amount equal to _____% of the value of my estate."
(for a gift as a percentage of an estate), or
. . . whatever remains of my estate (or _____% of whatever remains
of my estate) after all specific bequests have been made and after
all taxes, fees and other costs of
administering my estate have been paid." (for a gift as a
residual of an estate)
A Charitable Remainder
Trust can be established by an individual who desires income for
either a fixed period of time or for the remainder of his or her
life. Such a trust enables the donor to obtain a current charitable
deduction and avoid capital gains tax while making a meaningful
gift to charity. Lower dividend assets are transferred to UCPOK
to obtain a higher dividend return. The remainder of the assets
are passed on to UCPOK following the death of the donor and the
donor's beneficiary, or at the expiration of a fixed period of
time. Trusts may be funded with many types of assets, including
cash, certificates of deposit, appreciated securities, real property,
closely held business interests, and bonds or other tax-exempt
securities
